The following items were discussed at the regular monthly meeting of the Stratford Town Council.

Appointment of Deputy Municipal Electoral Officers

Council approved a resolution appointing Stephanie Roberts and Paul Alan as Deputy Municipal Electoral Officers for the November 5, 2018 municipal election.

Reallocation of New Deal for Cities and Communities (NDCC) Funding

With the existing New Deal for Cities and Communities program ending in 2019, several projects which were planned or which have funds allocated but not fully used have been reallocated to the following projects totaling $616,388:

-Recreation Projects $45,000
-Building Repairs $48,000
-Kinlock Beach Extension $30,000
-EMS Facility Energy $493,388

The Town of Stratford will continue to receive funding for various projects upon the continuation of the NDCC program for the next five year period and other federal programs available.

Resolution Supporting School Infrastructure

At last evening's Town Council Meeting, the resolution supporting school infrastructure in Stratford was approved. Through the resolution, the Town of Stratford endorsed the recommendation of the Public Schools Branch Board of Directors to add additional school infrastructure in Stratford, and stands ready to collaborate with the Public Schools Branch, the province and other stakeholders to determine the appropriate number of schools, grade configurations, programs in schools, and schedule for construction.

Water Meter Purchase

With development anticipated to continue in the Town of Stratford, and a resulting need for approximately 130 additional water meters through the end of 2019, Council approved a supplementary capital Utility budget of $41,000 which will allow the Town to purchase these water meters at the existing contract price, providing a savings of about $8,800 versus the full price that would otherwise be charged.

Adoption of SPEAR Feasibility Report

Stratford's Program for Energy Audits and Renewables (SPEAR) Operational Feasibility Report was adopted at the Council meeting last evening. The pilot program assessed the economic feasibility in reducing greenhouse gas emissions to help reach the target set out by the Town of Stratford. Continuation of the program will be based on funding received to assist with the administration and execution of the program into the future.

Diversity and Inclusion Plan Renewal

The original plan was developed over 10 years ago and through a series of focus groups, online surveys and meetings facilitated by MRSB Group a new series of actionable items have been identified as priorities for the Town of Stratford to work towards with the assistance and guidance of the Town's Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Town Committee Volunteer Application Process

Prior to the Council meeting the public were invited to an information session about the Town of Stratford's Committees and Process. In 2016 the Town of Stratford established a committee appointment policy to better help ensure that Town committees are representative of the broader community and that all perspectives are considered as much as possible. The next term is from December 1, 2018 to November 30, 2020 and all Stratford residents are eligible to apply with no previous experience is required. Existing committee members are also required to submit a new application as part of this process to be considered for any committee in the upcoming term. Additional information available here.
