May 11, 2016 Council Meeting Summary
For Immediate Release: May 12, 2016
The following items were discussed at the regular monthly meeting of the Stratford Town Council.
Presentation to Harry McLellan
Mayor Dunphy, on behalf of the Town of Stratford, and Chief Superintendent Joanne Crampton and Staff Sgt. Mark Crowther with the RCMP, made presentations to Harry McLellan, recognizing his service to the community, in particular, his instrumental role in establishing and growing the Stratford Citizens on Patrol program. The program has been in Stratford since 2008 and is supported by the Town of Stratford and RCMP. Through Harry's leadership it has grown to include 20 volunteers who are active every weekend throughout the Town aiding RCMP members with an extra set of eyes and ears on our streets. Harry and his wife Kathy are moving to British Columbia to be closer to family.

Grass Cutting Tender
Council approved a resolution to confirm the award of a tender for Grass Cutting to the lowest bidder, C & W Landscape, for the years 2016 at a cost of $26,726 and 2017 at a cost of $26,691.
Rankin Subdivision Water Extension Tender
Council passed a resolution to award the tender for the Rankin Water system to the low bidder Birt and MacKay Backhoe Services Ltd. at a cost of 914,961.55 including HST. This project will bring municipal water to Rankin Drive, Holland Drive, Wren Drive, and Heron Drive.
Cosmetic Pesticide Bylaw Amendment
Council approved 2nd Reading and Adoption of a Bylaw to amend the Cosmetic Pesticide Bylaw to add "pyrethins" to the allowed list of Pesticides in Appendix A of the Bylaw. Pyrethins were originally excluded from the Bylaw based on comments received from stakeholders but are included in the Nova Scotia allowed list. The intent was always to have the Stratford list of allowed pesticides mirror the list produced by the Nova Scotia Government so that we do not have to build our own expertise.
